Wire EDM is a manufacturing process that removes material from an electrically conductive work piece thru a series of rapidly controlled current discharges between two electrodes. The electrodes are separated by a dielectric liquid while connected to a power supply. Repetitive spark discharges from the wire to work piece erodes material from the workpiece.

Sinker EDM also creates shapes in electrically conductive materials by spark erosion. However, Sinker EDM requires use of a shaped electrode formed in the reverse of the required profile. The electrode and workpiece are again submerged in a dielectric fluid with electrode and workpiece connected to a power supply. Sinker EDM is well suited for micro hole drilling and various types of hard tooling.
Electrical Discharge Machining is typically employed on hard metals or those that would be difficult to machine with traditional machine tools. EDM will process material from a few thousandths thick to material that is several inches thick. EDM will cut simple or complex 2D geometries to include thin walls, intricate openings with sharp interior corners. EDM produces precise close tolerance components. The process yields a finished edge that is smooth and virtually burr free.
